Course Objectives
-Participants will be able to improve understanding of Clinical assessment including physical and radiological examination of femoral and acetabular pathologies that warrant hip preservation techniques.
-Participants will be able to understand the role of Regenerative medicine, Osteotomies and Arthroscopic interventions for Hip preservation.
-Participants will also understand key rehabilitation principles in non-operative, pre-operative and post-operative management of patients with hip pain.
-Participants will have better understanding of appropriate referral sources and provide a collaborative approach to treating complex hip conditions.

The department was opened at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, as a full service facility on July 11, 2006, providing complete Orthopaedic care, inculcating the principles of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The department provides state-of-the-art advanced medical and surgical treatment totally free of charge, irrespective of race, religion, caste, creed, gender, nationality or financial status.
The facility is equipped with most modern high technology equipment and is staffed by well qualified, experienced consultants. The department is approved by the National Board of Examination, New Delhi, for postgraduate training in Orthopaedics.
Out Patient Facility
About 150-180 patients are treated every day in this facility. A separate block is dedicated for screening patients coming to the hospital for the first time. Genuine Orthopaedic cases are referred to Orthopaedic OPD for further care. Specialty clinics for Paediatric.
Orthopaedics, Illizarov & deformity correction, Spine, Arthritis and Trauma are conducted on a regular basis.
S24- hour emergency facility
An emergency department with 4 beds and a Minor Operation theater provides 24-hour service to all emergencies in Orthopaedics.
Physiotherapy Unit
A well-equipped Physiotherapy section staffed by three full time well trained Physiotherapists provides physiotherapy services at the department.
Inpatient facility
The department has a 48 bedded ward (separate male and female ward, and a fully equipped PACU). On an average, 7 admissions a day are made to the ward.
Operating facility
The department has 3 modular Operation Theaters fitted with the best equipment. A 4-bedded post-op recovery room is also attached to it. Currently 6-8 major surgeries are done a day, adding up to around 19,700 surgeries from the inception of the department. The surgeries performed include:

Visiting faculty

With immense grace of our beloved lord Sri Sathya Sai Baba, we have a fellowship programme in the department of Orthopaedics in the fields of Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy, Traumatology and Arthoroplasty. The goals of the fellowship are to provide a comprehensive educational, clinical, operative and research training opportunity in these fields.
Department of Orthopaedics runs many research projects in collaboration with the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) at the Central Research Instruments Facility (CRIF) developed by Sri Sathya Sai Cental Trust (SSSCT), which is a state-of-the-art research facility that houses advanced Characterization/Analytical tools to carry out Translational Research in various areas of Science and Technology such as Physical, Biological, Chemical, Materials Science, Food and also Computational and Interdisciplinary areas.
The department also has a dry bone and simulation skills lab for training of DNB residents and junior faculty members. The Lab has 4 stations each for Trauma, Arthroscopy, Ilizarov and Microsurgery.
