Fellowship Programme in Cardiac Anaesthesia
The Department of Anaesthesiology was set up in 1991 November; all clinical departments are anchored to this specialty.
The Department has identified its goals within the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust’s mission by striving to offer the highest standards of clinical service, teaching and research: In clinical service, to set high standards of patient care: In teaching, to complement the curriculum of NBE to produce well trained and competent anaesthesiologists; in research, to advance the development of the specialty.
Clinically the Department is involved in the application of the science of anesthesia in perioperative care.
In addition to providing more sophisticated intra-operative care for increasingly complex surgical procedures, anaesthesiologists have extended their skills outside the operating theatre. Primarily this entails preoperative assessment and treatment, Monitored Anaesthesia Care in peripheral theatres (lithotripsy, cardiac categorisation laboratory, imaging and gastroenterology), pain management, care of the critically ill, managing emergencies, post operative mechanical ventilation and life support.
Facilities available include intra-operative transoesophageal echocardiography, spirometry for pulmonary function tests, fibre optic bronchoscopy.
